Boiler Stove Vs Non Boiler Stove

One of the many questions that we are asked is what are the advantages and disadvantages of a boiler stove and a dry non boiler stove.  There is not a simple black and white answer to this question because most houses are different and peoples daily lives are also different. So to decide which stove suits you there are a few very important questions to answer

No 1 What size is your house and heating system?

No 2 Do you work at home or do you go out to work?

No 3 Will you spend most of your time in the area of the stove?

No 4 Do you have a plentiful supply of fuel for your stove?

No 5 Do you have another heating system in your house?

If you work at home and have a plentiful supply of fuel there is an argument to put in a boiler stove.

To run a boiler stove efficiently it takes time to get the heat in the room and also to get the heat to circulate to the radiators, you will also need to fuel the stove throughout the day.

But if you come in from work in the evening  it will take a lot of time to get your stove up to a good temperature and then heat the radiators as well.

You obviously would have to fit a big stove which would take a lot more  fuel as well..

On the other hand if you are in the medium size house with a requirement of 6 to 10 rads and no other heating appliance in the house then a wood burning or multi-fuel boiler stove would be a very good option.

The advantage of a wood burning or multi fuel inset non boiler stove or free standing stove in my opinion far out ways the boiler stove ( except  for the points above) when you light your wood burning or multi-fuel non boiler stove you almost get instant heat in the room,  also the multi fuel non boiler stove is way more efficient than a boiler stove and open fire and gives off 5 to 8 KW in comparison to 1 to 2 KW in an open fire.

The inset stove or free standing wood burning or multi fuel stove can save up 50% in fuel and are up to 80% efficient generally what you find is the heat from a non boiler inset or free stand stove tends to filter into other areas of the house, also the fitting of a dry non boiler stove is a far simpler and cleaner job as there is no pluming involved and the dry non boiler stove can be fitted in the one day.
